This position is responsible for the daily setup and operation of hydraulic and mechanical press brakes in a just-in-time fabrication shop, and may be required to assist other operators on key work or machines as required.
Must be available to work Monday – Friday, 7:00am -4:00pm with occasional OT.
Essential Job Duties:
• Set up and operate hydraulic and mechanical press brakes for routine and complex forming operations.
• Select, align and secure correct tooling (dies, gauges, templates, shims, etc.) for the job task using all features of the press brake (bending at angles, step bends, proper back gauge transfer, etc.).
• Plan sequence of bend operations applying knowledge of metal type and gauge.
• Review paperwork to determine if the requested work product is to be certified by the UL or Intertek listing marks.
• Inspect work product for defects, verify dimensions and bend angles using calibrated measuring instruments.
• Upon completion of forming/bending operation, scan paperwork and route product to next workstation.
• Log production and scrap data on a daily basis.
• Perform assigned work to production and time standards.
• Make routine decisions and use problem solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues, or seek assistance.
• Train less experienced operators.
• Perform daily and periodic inspection of equipment and tools, and conduct preventive and corrective maintenance as prescribed in the manufacturers’ operating instructions.
• Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions, misalignments or performance issues; record operational data; report deficiencies.
• Keep work area clean and orderly.
• Collaborate with Shop Foreman and other shop personnel to ensure material for each job is on schedule and in the proper location.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and for cost and waste reduction.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
General Production Standards:
• Compliance with industry, UL and Intertek procedures and with company policy, procedures and best practices, with special attention to safety procedures.
• Responsible for all production variances within 1/32” of specifications (unless otherwise specified).
• Responsible for proper use of equipment and machinery and for inspection of work product to include UL and Intertek certification or classification, accurate measurements, squareness or accuracy of all bends, and use of Go/No-Go gauges.
• Perform only those functions for which the operator has training or experience.
Competencies:
• Must have strong metal press forming and basic fabrication background.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of fabrication and of hydraulic and mechanical press brakes, including setup.
• Competent at basic dimensional measuring and use of precision measurement tools.
• Computer skills, including familiarity with CNC programming.
• Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
• Ability to read and understand shop cut sheets and other shop drawing aids.
• Safety conscious behavior.
• Good mechanical aptitude.
• Strong orientation toward quality and continuous improvement.
• Must be punctual and have excellent attendance.
Physical Requirements:
• Lift, carry, push or pull 1-50 lbs frequently.
• Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead and outward frequently.
• Sit, stand and walk for 1-10 hours per day.
• Ability to work in a 40-100 degree Fahrenheit work environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision protection, steel-toed shoes and other appropriate protective clothing.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Vo-Tech training or minimum 5 years experience as a press brake operator.
