The Laser Operator is responsible for the setup, operation and routine maintenance of the CNC Laser to run programming, cut, load and unload material all to specified dimensions and quality checked in a just-in-time fabrication shop, and may be required to assist other operators on key work or machines as required.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Set up and operate Laser to cut metal according to specifications.
2. Review paperwork to determine whether the materials are intended to be included in UL or Intertek certified production.
3. Select correct raw material and lift work piece manually or by hoist onto roller table or machine bed.
4. Plan sequence of operations, applying knowledge of physical properties of metal and operational properties of Laser, load programs, and set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment.
5. Inspect work product for surface defects and verify dimensions and quality expectations using tape measure, caliper or template.
6. Upon completion of Laser operation, ensure product passes quality assurance check, scan into ERP system and timely route to next workstation.
7. Log production and scrap data daily.
8. Perform assigned work to production and time standards.
9. Collaborate with Shop Foreman and other shop personnel to ensure material for each job is on schedule and in the proper location.
10. Make routine decisions and use problem solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues or seek assistance.
11. Perform daily inspection of equipment and tools and conduct preventive and corrective maintenance as prescribed in the manufacturers’ operating instructions.
12. Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions, misalignments, or performance issues; record operational data; report deficiencies.
13. Keep work area clean and orderly.
14. Identify opportunities for process improvement and for cost and waste reduction.
15. Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements
Competencies:
1.Must have basic fabrication background.
2.Basic knowledge of laser operation and maintenance.
3.Competent at basic dimensional measuring and use of measurement tools.
4.Demonstrated competency in basic shop math including decimals and fractions.
5.Mechanical aptitude.
6.Computer skills, including familiarity with CNC programming.
7.Ability to read and understand shop cut sheets and other shop drawing aids.
8.Safety conscious behavior.
9.Strong orientation toward quality and continuous improvement.
10.Attention to detail.
11.Must be punctual and have excellent attendance.
Physical Requirements:
1.Lift, carry, push or pull 1-65 lbs frequently.
2.Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead and outward frequently.
3.Sit, stand and walk for 1-10 hours per day.
4.Ability to work in a 40-100 degree Fahrenheit work environment.
5.Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision protection, steel-toed shoes and other appropriate protective clothing.
